Alabama Tornado devastation and destruction April 27, 2011---A day to remember in Alabama, a kind of 9/11 for the whole state. It was about a mile away from us where a tornado touched down around 2:30 p.m. in the afternoon. I was in the tornado safety spot in our newly constructed home in Alabama in the basement when it hit. I was with my three children and my mother-in -law Nancy. Jeff was out driving and saw it cross into the city of Cullman. I was suppose to be working but asked to leave early so I could be home with the kids. I'm glad I did because it hit so close to K-mart in Cullman where I work for Olan Mills right now. The storms hit early that morning around 6:00 a.m. and I woke up way ahead of the storm and woke up my kids to get them to come to the new house with a basement instead of our mobile home. Jeff didn't want to wake up so he stayed in the mobile home. The tornado warning sirens went off and I was afraid for Jeff but he didn't answer my telephone. I just stayed in the shelter. When the morning passed I heard of a lot of damage in some areas of Cullman. The afternoon tornadoes really did a lot of damage and you can see some of the tornado on You-tube videos. I'm glad I was in a shelter and our house was not in it's path. The path was so close to our house though, just down the street houses and trees all over the place. It sure was an eye-opener when I saw the damage up close. It is something I'll never forget. Weather is very powerful!
